Silver Tone or Sterling Silver? What's the difference?

Silver Tone or Sterling Silver? What's the difference?

I strive to make Anomaly Jewelry accessible by offering both fine and base metal versions of my designs. But what the hell is white brass and how does it react over time? Is sterling silver better? SO many questions.

As you can see from the pic below, the first noticeable difference between sterling silver and white brass is it's shade. Sterling silver is lighter in gray than its white brass counterpart.
differences in metal types
all metals can be cleaned if they tarnish. My favorite, low cost polishing cloth that will work on all metals is the Sunshine Polishing Cloth. You can take a look at it here.
What are your silver tone and gold tone jewelry made from?
Our base metals (marked Silver Tone and Gold Tone) are both 100% brass. Brass is a metallic alloy that is made of copper and zinc. There is no nickel in any of our jewelry.
All other jewelry is made of  sterling silver or various karats of gold.

Will the brass and white brass metals (silver tone & gold tone) turn my skin green?

Necklaces: Almost never. Try and follow my care instructions below to reduce the chances of this ever happening.

Rings: Maybe. This is because your hands touch way more things than your neck/chest and also sweats more. I wish I could give you a more certain answer, however, whether or not brass will turn your skin depends on many factors. Most importantly, the oils and chemicals unique to your skin determines whether or not you skin turns color. The best way to avoid skin discoloration is to take off your jewelry when you are exercising or in the water. Keeping your jewelry dry is also the best way to avoid tarnishing.

I offer the brass selections as a lower cost alternative to fine metals. If you would like to be sure that your purchase will not change your skin's color, you will have to spend more money as these metals cost significantly more for this reason. I offer many styles in sterling silver. If you don't see the item you would like offered in sterling silver, I can custom make it for you! Just email karen@anomalyjewelry to start the custom order.

All metals tarnish over time. To make sure your jewelry looks its best for as long as possible, it is up to you to care for your Anomaly.
How to make your jewels last!
1. Keep  your jewelry away from perfumes and oils.
2. Keep your jewelry dry! While it is perfectly fine to shower with your Anomaly on, removing it beforehand will extend its tarnish free look. Sterling silver and gold are perfectly fine in the shower. All metals of jewelry should not be worn in a chlorinated pool.
CLEANING: If your jewelry tarnishes over time, this is perfectly normal. All metals do this with the exception of genuine gold.
FIX: Purchase a silver cleaning cloth (5-10 dollars) and simply rub the cloth on your jewelry. It's fast, easy, and super effective.
